The Crazy Road Trip, Part 2

Carbondale, Illinois

We left Athens, Ohio two days ago, traveling 4 hours southwest to Corbin, Kentucky to visit with my stepson Jason and his girlfriend. The last time I saw him he was in his early twenties, tall and lanky.

Now he is 6’3”, 280 pounds and bald. He is still the sweet young man he always was, but now has a son in college and two girlfriends, 5 hours apart! He goes back and forth with his dog Brody. Both women love Brody too, so now I have a step-son that cheats with his dog too!

We left the next morning confused as how to advise him, other than to choose the one that he has the most fun with. It’s the woman who is 16 years older, looks like his mom and who knows he might leave her at any moment. Glad he didn’t just choose the 12 year younger woman that is sweet and cute, but doesn’t share any of his fishing and hunting interests. He cheats but isn’t shallow and now knows what he really needs in his life.

We traveled through Kentucky Lake where my folks retired all of 6 months before my 59 year old dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, which killed him 5 months later. So tragic. But Mom held her head high, continued visiting there for a few years, until she met another man in St Louis, then worked their way to Arizona. She eventually would meet her 4th and final hubby of 16 years, where they lived until her death in March 2022, at almost 92 years of age.

Dad had been waiting 30 years for her, and after last week, they are now next to each other in Bloomington, Illinois along with Grandma Tiger (Cleo) and Great-Grandma Zoe.

After Kentucky Lake. Where do you think we went next?
