Who and What do You Admire?

What is something others do that sparks your admiration?

Very simple. Kindness and generosity. It’s sad to say that in my 70 years on earth, I can count on one hand the number of people who are close to me, who have been kind AND generous.

There are way more strangers who have shown kindness than from my own family. Kind of sad, but not unusual based on conversations I have had with other older woman.

Our children no longer need us or respect us. I believe that we are the first generation of senior adults to be discarded and forgotten about.

My generation took care of their parents. It was an unstated responsibility we were born with. I moved many times to care for my mom during her life.. I gave up 6 years of being with my precious grandkids to care for, cook, clean and serve as both of their “hospice nurses” for my mom in 2022 and my stepdad just a year ago.

In reality, I took care of my mom from the day I became an adult. We reversed roles. She became the child and I was the adult watching over her. That’s how we Baby Boomers do it!

Now I’m old on the outside but still feel young at heart. But I’ve had a year of ER visits…almost enough for once a month in 2025. And not once did my only child come to hold my hand….and he lives down the street!

Does he not care? Is he too busy? Probably a bit of both, But I gave him too much and made his life way too easy, not the same as it was in my life. I have struggled with very little family support from my early adult years until I met my husband Steve a few years ago.

The greatest discovery of my life was found this year. If you give too much to someone, they will take your kindness for granted. My son is not the only one that acts this way. Almost everyone I know says exactly the same thing about this generation of maturing adults, their children.

That’s why I can count on one hand the people who HAVE shown me both kindness and gratitude. I am very grateful to have them in my life. They make me feel loved and special and I thank them.

I hope that you will join me on this journey of inspiration and motivation. Please subscribe to:
