The Simple Things in Life

What makes you happy? Is it a big house? Fancy car? The newest designer purse? The fancy restaurant or expensive vacation? I had all those things for many years, and never laughed or even smiled very much. Money could not bring me that warm feeling of contentment and love. It took a special man who entered my life seven years ago. A man that was hurting and struggling, searching for someone to love him and believe in him. I had been searching for someone to heal my heart and love me unconditionally.

Our life is filled with the simplest of things. Fishing on an early Saturday morning in a rowboat, catching only two small fish, but as proud of them as if they had been whoppers! We pack our backpack full of snacks and picnic at the pool. We go on adventures to learn about other countries and cultures.

But the best part of our life? It’s waking up in the middle of the night, holding each other and laughing about the silliest things that happened that day.

Do we make much money? No. We are retired now, enjoying the fruits of our labor and sharing with anyone that needs a hand up. Everyone needs help, whether or not they even know it.

It isn’t the material things in our life that brings us happiness. It is sharing a pack of peanuts and knowing that someone loves you with all their heart. It’s the simple things in life that matters.

Simply loving one another.
