I grew up in the volatile times of the 60’s and 70’s. Experiencing the assassination of our great leaders of reform, witnessing the craziness of Woodstock and burning bras, proud of the Supreme Courts decision on Roe versus Wade, and watching the horrors of the Vietnam War formed my views at an early age and have not wavered over the years.
I have faced insurmountable challenges along the way. My second child was born with no brain development, he lived to be almost 30 years old, but was like an infant his entire life. He was non-verbal, and could barely walk or feed himself. Yet he loved our drives in the Missouri countryside past junk yards, trips to McDonalds for orange soda and quarter pounders, and listening to heavy metal music.
I became his advocate and fought for his rights as a developmentally disabled young man for 30 years. Justin made me into a tireless fighter of injustice and for those that couldn’t fight for themselves.
Life taught me to be brave and face my fears, moving forward no matter what. There is no challenge left undone, no heartbreak left unfelt, no chance I don’t take. I refuse to be defined by what others think I should do or what other people are lining up to do. I have learned that you can either sit back and let life go screaming by, or jump in and make a change….left, right or barreling straight ahead. It’s your choice.
I hope that you will join me on my crusade for Social Injustice. Look for opportunities to help those in need and right the wrongs in our chaotic world of crisis around us.
