Enjoy celebrating our nation’s 250th birthday today with family and friends. Let’s work together as proud and united Americans, not Republicans or Democrats, to make our nation a better place for our children to grow up in.
—— I first wrote this post 9 years ago in 2017, when my blog was only 2 years old. I look back and think about how much I have experienced in my life as a Christian American since then.
50 years ago today, I was tent camping with my parents, grandmother and new husband, no little boys yet. The rain poured on us for 24 hours and we huddled in that tent all together. When the sun came out, my mom, grandma and myself took all the wet and muddy things to a laundromat, came back and set it all up again. We were determined to camp, grill, watch the fireworks and celebrate the bicentennial together.
I have since buried my mom, dad, grandma and one of my boys. I have seen the country splinter and struggle many times as our leaders have changed 12 times since then.
However, I am still that proud and optimistic Christian American, not afraid to stand up for my faith, proud of my country and still have the same optimism of that 21 year old girl camping at Crab Orchard Lake in Southern Illinois. But now I am camping in a Tiffin RV, a lot more comfortable than in a tent.
I wish my family were still here with me celebrating this very special day, but they are in my heart every day of my life. They are the source of my strength and confidence to carry on my daily fight for injustice.
I ask all of you, who are reading this across the world, to stand together today as we celebrate our 250th! GOD BLESS AMERICA!
